Bishan Home ERC! Care

BISHAN HOME ERC! CARE

14 January 2012

On 25th September 1999, Bishan Home was officially opened by then our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. When they first started, Bishan Home was registered under the Bible Presbyterian Welfare services umbrella. They started from slightly 20 residents and growth into nearly 132 of residents. They come from different background of family.

In Home, they have friends who always talk, play, sing, and dance together, even though some of them never talk with other residents. As we know, these people are intellectually disabled individuals.

Many of our students wanted to join this event but unfortunately only 11 students are allowed to join this event. They were very excited when they know this is a charity event, and some of them never joined this type of charity event previously when they were back in their home countries.

Our students played some games, danced and shared their stories with the residents. We called the residents “buddy” so that they can have closer bonding with us. When we danced together, they are really happy because of our companionship.

The purpose of this event was to celebrate Chinese New Year with them, so during the dance session we got “Chocolate Ang Pao” from the organizers. At the end, everybody was happy because we had fun together and the students made a special day in the hearts of these residents.

Fuji Xerox Singapore is a joint venture company between Fuji Photo and Xerox Corporation. Fuji Xerox Singapore was named Rank Xerox in 1962 but they sold it to Fuji Xerox later than. Now, they are one of the market-leaders in the laser printer industry under Fuji Xerox Singapore.

They offer all kinds of printing services, such award-winning colour and monochrome printing technologies. Fuji Xerox positioned them self ideally in all markets with an extensive line of monochrome and colour printer products that can meet the needs and exceed the expectations of home users, businesses and work groups of all sizes.

Our students went to Fuji Xerox Singapore to learn about their daily operations and how they market their company not only in Singapore but also in the ASEAN region. We have also gained insights about their Human Resources strategies how to improve workers’ welfare through fun-filled activities such as a themed workplace decoration competition. There are different themes for different department, such as One Piece, Pirates of The Carribean etc. Through some of these staff events, they build closer bonding among all staff and increase the overall staff morale.

Fuji Xerox Singapore is very committed in reducing their waste, and they are still looking for better ways to be environmentally friendly through Go Green programme. This is done through recycling their products, such as printer, ink, paper, and electricity (Save Electricity Day).
After the visit, our students have not only gained new insights into Fuji Xerox operations, some of them have even expressed their interest to join the company after graduation.

ERC Mini Orientation

ERC MINI ORIENTATION

 28 December 2011

This orientation was organized by our International department and Student Council for all new students who have intake in January from the various programs in ERCI. The objective of this orientation is to enable new students to get to know one another as well as familiarize themselves on some basic regulations in school.

The Student Councils were involved as Student Orientation Leaders and this made new students feel more at home. With the warm interaction from Student Councils, the new students did not feel they are strangers in Singapore at all.

This round, our Student Councils assumed more leadership roles. Besides being the Orientation Leaders, two Student Councils were also the emcees for the games segments. Our new students were divided into small groups according MRT stations in Singapore. The MRT stations were Orchard, Little India, Chinatown, Somerset, etc.

In summary, the students played both indoor – Transformers and Musical Chair, as well as outdoor games – Balloon Belly, Straw It and Cuppie Cups. So much fun and laughter was generated, most importantly this built the bridge between students along with their creativity and patience.

At the end, Orchard team was the winner for outdoor games since they had the fastest time to finish the outdoor games. All the students who attended this orientation not only enjoyed themselves but also gained the experience that they never had before. Most importantly, they took away the learning points of team work, creativity, and perseverance.

ERCI Student Council BBQ party

ERCI STUDENT COUNCIL BARBEQUE PARTY

16 NOVEMBER 2011

It has been awhile since the Student Council has started its mass recruitment since Sep 2011. To-date, the Student Council has around 90 active members. This barbeque party was organized as a reward to all the Student Councils who have helped out at the recent Mega Orientation as Orientation Leaders.

At the barbeque party, Certificates of Appreciation were given out by our Group Deputy CEO of ERC Holdings, Mr Ong Han Boon, to recognize the efforts of all the Student Councils who have put in their time and effort into organizing a successful Mega Orientation which hosted around 160 new and existing students. This was not an easy feat as a lot of time and commitment has been put into planning for such a mega event – which involved outdoor games for the students.

This barbeque also served as a platform for students to mingle and build up their esprit-de-corp spirit. This is especially important as among the 90 over Student Councils, they come from different countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Myanmar, India etc. With the vast nationalities of our Student Councils, the networking session has indeed help to break any borders amidst them.

Coincidentally, the occasion was also the birthday of one of our Student Councils – Sophia Pham. The students celebrated her birthday by splashing her with flour, water and egg; and of course a birthday cake! Amidst all the fun and laughter, all the Student Councils had a great time bonding with their peers and Lecturers; and naturally the best part of the evening was to enjoy so much yummy delicious barbeque food.
Participants:

PROJECT HAPPY FEET SLIPPER RACE

PROJECT HAPPY FEET SLIPPER RACE

13 NOVEMBER 2011
Project Happy Feet Slipper Race 2011 is the first-ever non-competitive race in slippers. It was held successfully on 13 November 2011 Sunday at East Coast Park. There were 1,800 registered participants and 250 volunteers with SGD87,000 raised (still counting). 100% of which will be channeled to support education of underprivileged children in Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam.

When the word about this slipper race got to ERCI Student Services and Student Council, we promptly rounded up more than 30 staff members and students to take part. “Project Happy Feet allows students and staff to pro-actively give back to society through a simple, fun-filled event that will also foster the bond and team spirit between the staff and students,” says Mr Ong Han Boon, Group Deputy CEO, ERC Holdings. “Staff and students of ERC Institute are supporting this event because it echoes our values of compassion, action, fun, team spirit and optimism”.

“I am excited and looking forward to this event. Being one of the Student Councils in-charge of this event, it makes me feel proud to be doing something meaningful to help the children across the 3 countries – especially those from Vietnam, my home country,” shares Ms Pham Thi Nhu Quynh Sophia, 22, a student pursuing the Advanced Diploma in Business Administration. “I would like to do this again next year!”

The ERCI team had a morning of fun whereby we walked around 3km on foot with our slippers at East Coast Park. This is to remind ourselves that some of these underprivileged students in Vietnam and Cambodia have to walk miles and miles barefooted to school. With such a meaningful event, ERCI staff and students were indeed proud to say that at ERCI – We Care!

ERC SUCCESS FORUM

ERC SUCCESS FORUM

02 NOVEMBER 2011

When it comes to business sense, we will definitely think of our CEO, Mr. Andy Ong. He was a self-made millionaire when he was 26 years old, making him one of the youngest self-made millionaires in Singapore.

Currently, Mr Andy Ong is the CEO of ERC Holdings. He is also the founder of Asia Financial Planning Journal, Chairman of Stock Exchange of Thailand, and The Founding President of the Financial Planning Association of Singapore, a member of the Financial Planning Association (America) & the Education and Public Awareness committees of the International CFP Council.

Besides Andy, there were two more speakers sharing their experience and journey at this success forum event. Firstly was Mr Douglas Foo, who is the CEO of Sakae Holdings. He started his own business in 1996 while the Asian financial crisis happened in 1997 and global financial crisis in 2005 but Sakae Holdings was able to ride through that tough period and developed into a Public Listed Company.

Our second speaker was Dr. John Vong, he has more than 33 years experience as a financial consultant. He has held senior positions at the World Bank, United Nations, Deloitte Australia, NTU & HSBC Banking Group across 17 countries. He has worked with and be consultants for the public & private sectors in all 10 ASEAN governments, 5 Global Technology giants (HP, Motorola, IBM, Siemens & Seagate), and 6 Global Banks.

At this success forum, our students were given an insight on “How to invest in property amidst a volatile market” by Mr. Andy Ong; “Entrepreneurship in Business – How to grow business from dream to be real” by Mr. Douglas Foo, and lastly is “How to manage your business during Financial Crisis” by Dr. John Vong. Students gained a lot of knowledge through this event and they were more prepared for their future especially in business line.
