MEGA ORIENTATION 22 OCTOBER 2011

MEGA ORIENTATION

22 October 2011
This Mega Orientation was organized by Student Services & Administration (SSA) Division for all new and existing students from the various programs in ERCI. This was also the first time that Student Council (SC) members were roped in to help as Orientation Leaders and it proved to be a huge success!

Given an over-whelming turnout of around 160 students, we have a room fully packed with students and a happy problem – not enough chairs for students! The SSA Division started the planning of this orientation a few months before Oct 2011. They wanted to run this orientation different from past ones. With the recent mass recruitment of SCs, it was decided to get the SCs to be involved in this event for the very first time.

Besides the usual academic and administrative briefing, the students went through a half-day of fun with teambuilding games – both indoor and outdoor. They were first divided into different teams in a random order so that they can get to know new friends from different programs. Then they played two indoor games – Transformer and Musical Chair. Rounds of laughter were heard throughout the games as students were amused by the participants of the games.

Then the highlight was the outdoor team challenge – whereby students in their allocated orientation teams, had to undergo three different challenges namely Cuppie Cups, Balloon Belly and Straw It. These challenges aim to build the espirit-de-corp spirit among the students as well as their patience and creativity.

Finally, team DHL emerged as the champion team which all the students in the team took away with them Golden Village movie vouchers! All students who attended the Mega Orientation not only enjoyed themselves thoroughly and had fun, but most importantly, they took away some learning points of building teamwork, perseverance and determination via the team challenge. Indeed this will be a great start to their new academic term in ERCI!

PROJECT HAPPY FEET SLIPPER RACE 13 NOVEMBER 2011

Project Happy Feet Slipper Race 2011 is the first-ever non-competitive race in slippers. It was held successfully on 13 November 2011 Sunday at East Coast Park. There were 1,800 registered participants and 250 volunteers with SGD87,000 raised (still counting). 100% of which will be channeled to support education of underprivileged children in Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam.

When the word about this slipper race got to ERCI Student Services and Student Council, we promptly rounded up more than 30 staff members and students to take part. “Project Happy Feet allows students and staff to pro-actively give back to society through a simple, fun-filled event that will also foster the bond and team spirit between the staff and students,” says Mr Ong Han Boon, Group Deputy CEO, ERC Holdings. “Staff and students of ERC Institute are supporting this event because it echoes our values of compassion, action, fun, team spirit and optimism”.

“I am excited and looking forward to this event. Being one of the Student Councils in-charge of this event, it makes me feel proud to be doing something meaningful to help the children across the 3 countries – especially those from Vietnam, my home country,” shares Ms Pham Thi Nhu Quynh Sophia, 22, a student pursuing the Advanced Diploma in Business Administration. “I would like to do this again next year!”

The ERCI team had a morning of fun whereby we walked around 3km on foot with our slippers at East Coast Park. This is to remind ourselves that some of these underprivileged students in Vietnam and Cambodia have to walk miles and miles barefooted to school. With such a meaningful event, ERCI staff and students were indeed proud to say that at ERCI – We Care!

Participants:
23 students; 12 staff

ERCI Student Orientation on Aug 11

On the 20th of August 2011, ERCI was proud to welcome yet another group of students to the ever growing ERCI Family!

In this half day orientation where "KISS" (Keep It Short Simple) was the theme of the day, we sought to provide an introduction of everything that ERCI stands for! From a short start on the rules regulations....etc. to getting everyone riled up with the games that we planned out for that day!

The 2 games of the Day were:

1) "Find someone Who....."

"Find Someone Who...."

In this game there were 5 Winners:

2)"The Showdown!"

If you want to know what they games were about....come down for the next orientation! Its as 'SIMPLE' as that!!!!

After which we touched slightly on some useful information of the Harvard referencing style which will prove useful to many of the students in their assignments as they progress on together with us in preparing for a bright career in the future! As Always ERCI is proud & honoured to be a part of our students success!
